For an oven with lots of burnt on black carbon deposits, you can use this long-term cleaning method. Get a large empty spray bottle and add 3 heaped teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and add approx 1 litre of water. Shake the bottle well so the crystals dissolve. On a COLD oven, spray the mixture all over the walls and floor of the oven. Continue to use your oven as normal and spray the mixture in between meals, when cold. Eventually all the black carbon will slide to the bottom of your oven and you can wipe it away with a damp cloth. It may take some time, but this is a low elbow grease method of cleaning your oven the natural way.
To remove built up grease from around your kitchen – hob tops are the worst culprit – soak a cloth or sponge in neat white vinegar and use to wipe the grease away The vinegar cuts through the grease and removes it, rather than just moving it around as some cleaners can do!
Sprinkle baking powder (bicarbonate of soda) onto dirt and grease around the kitchen – worktops, hobs etc – rub into the dirt with a damp cloth or sponge and watch the powder do its magic! The powder is mildly abrasive and gets to work on the dirt and grease with minimal elbow grease requried. Rinse well with clean water once the dirt has been removed.
Fill a microwave-safe bowl with a solution of half water and half white vinegar. Heat the bowl on full power in the microwave for 2 minutes. The vinegar and water will evaporate partially to steam and help to remove the baked on food inside he microwave. Use a cloth or sponge dipped in the solution to wipe away the residue from the inside of the microwave.
